Thomas Franks is looking for an ambitious accountant based in Lisbon, Portugal to join our dynamic team, becoming part of the local Portuguese support team and the wider Thomas Franks finance team based in the UK. The individual will report to the Finance Director in the UK and be on hand to provide business partnering to the local Operations Managers based in Portugal.

The role will suit somebody who has already worked in the hospitality/catering industry and has full understanding of Portuguese legislative requirements in all areas of accounting and finance. Predominately based from home with some visits to locations required for meetings and reviews. Permanent position - 40 hrs per week - Monday to Friday

Main responsibilities

  • Upload purchase invoices from our eight Portuguese locations and ensuring accuracy in doing so
  • Create payment files on a monthly basis to settle amounts owed to our suppliers
  • Ensuring supplier accounts are up to date by performing regular supplier statement reconciliations to provide assurance that all invoices are captured on a timely basis
  • Processing accounting entries on clients’ accounts
  • Work with our operators to ensure clients accounts are accurate and inline with budgets
  • Raising sales invoices and distributing to operations and client
  • Cash and banking reconciliations for two locations
  • Reconcile key balance sheet accounts such as accruals, deferrals, prepayments and bank
  • Ensure the Portugal trial balance is kept up-to-date and accurate and inline with Portugal law
  • Process and submit VAT Returns locally
  • Submission of accounting files in SAFT-PT format
  • Prepare the annual financial statements
  • Process and submit team members’ expenses and reimbursements, getting details right and according to the Expenses policy
  • Supporting operations on financial analysis required on ad-hoc basis
  • Involvement in budget setting and analysis to support
  • Key driver in ensuring controls are robust and we maintain healthy financial processes locally
  • Other ad-hoc duties to support team objectives

Key Personal Skills and Attributes

  • Ability to work on your own initiative and work well within a team
  • Fluent in Portuguese and strong written and verbal English
  • Able to provide attention to detail, work under pressure, have excellent communication skills
  • Personal attributes include reliability, honesty, loyalty and self-motivation
  • A competent user of a PC - MS office i.e. Outlook, Word and Excel

Qualifications and experience

  • Minimum of 4 years relative experience
  • Ideal but not essential Microsoft Dynamics GP experience
  • Proficient in using Microsoft excel
  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Finance/Accounting required, OCC, CPA or ACCA preferred
